Excuse me! That’s not my back!

Last week I was crazy busy with a trip to Sydney for 4 days and finally finishing VEDA (making a video every day in August). So, it was not a surprise when on Sunday morning I woke up with really bad back pain to which prompted my boyfriend Ethan to suggest that I should get a massage.

A good thing about shopping malls is that almost everything you could need can be found in the same place. My trip to the mall included a stop at Apple store, because who doesn’t like to play with the new iPad Pro and the cute pencil, knowing that actually buying it cannot be considered? I got my eyebrows done and to keep things relaxed and make it a day focused on me, I decided to follow Ethan’s idea and get a back massage.

I’m not a massage-type-of-girl. I think I have been to massage parlours four times in my entire life, tops! Which means I’m not an expert and I’m not sure what the ‘normal’ is, but I thought my back needed some extra help and given that I was already there, so why not?

The place I found was managed by an Asian man who was directing new customers to different rooms or chairs depending on the type of massage. He directed me to the fourth and last room of the store, surrounded by a bright red curtain. At the same time, a younger Asian guy followed us and using only nonverbal cues he asked me to put my belongings into a little basket and to lay, face down, on the table in front of me.

Everything started normally. He started massaging the upper part of my back, then the shoulders, neck and head. After 30 minutes of massaging very strongly and covering every inch of each area, he proceeded to massage my lower back, which was OK! I was expecting him to spend some time on that area because that was the painful bit, that was the whole reason I was doing it in the first place!. He spent an extra 10 minutes on it and when I thought the massage was finally over (I wasn’t expecting it to go for more than 30 min), he started to rub my butt! Full on hands on my right cheek!

At this point, I laughed! I didn’t say anything, I was just in shock. It was completely unexpected. I wasn’t sure if I should tell him off or if that was just part of the package. I remember thinking, since when butts are part of the backs?. I found it very funny and instead of asking him to stop, I started wondering how many people have been caught off-guard by this part of the massage and what have they done?. He did not just rub my ass, he squeezed it, touched it, and massaged it for at least 10 minutes, 5 minutes per cheek.

After around 50 min he finally finished and I left the place with very relaxed back, shoulders and ass but, as I was walking out I couldn’t help but wonder since when is the butt the new back?
